Mrs. Mary Johnson, of Ladoga, died last Saturday morning at 5 o’clock of paralysis and heart trouble. The funeral was preached at the Christian Church at Parkersburg Sunday morning at 11 o’clock by Rev. Brooks of Ladoga. Interment was at the old Christian Church on Indian Creek. Mrs. Mary Johnson was the only daughter of Ambrose Armstrong, of near Parkersburg. She leaves a husband, one daughter, one son and two brothers and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. She joined the Christian Church at Parkersburg when a young girl and has lived a true Christian life up to her death. Mrs. Johnson was born in the year 1843, making her fifty five years old at the time of her death.

A large concourse of friends and relatives attended the funeral service of Mrs. Mary Johnson, which was conducted at the Christian Church by Rev. Brooks, of Ladoga, assisted by Rev. W. G. Higgins, of Lebanon. Again God in his infinite wisdom has seen fit to call from our midst a beloved sister, Mrs. Mary Johnson, who departed this life Saturday, Oct. 15, 1898, at her home in Ladoga. She was stricken with paralysis shortly after noon on Tuesday, Oct. 11, and survived until Saturday at 5 o’clock a.m. when her sprit took its flight to the better world. After the stroke she was unable to speak, but her friends felt that she recognized them and longed for power to speak loving words of advice and consolation to them. Her sudden demise brings vividly to our minds the awful lesson that death is sure and life uncertain, and we should all endeavor to so live that we may meet her in the great beyond.
She leaves a husband, two brothers, a daughter, a son, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. “Aunt Sis” as she was usually called, will be sadly missed by all the people here by whom she was loved, honored and respected. She was a good neighbor and always had a kind and loving word for every one she met.
She was the only daughter of Ambrose Armstrong and was born at the old Armstrong home just west of Parkersburg, where her girlhood days were spent. She was married to Presley Johnson in 1863 and to them was born four children, two having preceded the mother to the better world. She and her husband were charter members of the Christian Church at Parkersburg and have always resided here until about three years ago, when they and their daughter, Rena, removed to Ladoga, leaving the farm in charge of the son, William Johnson, who now mourns the loss of a mother.
